Lucas Apostoleris is a composer and drummer currently residing in Miami, FL. In addition to writing music for his own ensemble, Lucas has recently written arrangements for the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra in Ft. Myers, FL, and for the prestigious Airmen of Note Air Force big band.
Lucas has been a recipient of the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer awards three times, in 2008, 2009, and 2018, and he received an honorable mention in 2017. He was also the recipient of Best Original Composition in the graduate division of the 40th Annual Downbeat Student Awards in 2017. Previously, in 2013, Lucas was one of five composers nationwide to be featured in the 2014 Jazz Educators' Network Student Composition Showcase in Dallas, TX. He graduated with a master’s degree from the Frost School of Music’s Studio Jazz Writing program in 2017.
Lucas performs regularly as a drummer, primarily in the Miami area. While pursuing his bachelor’s degree at the University of Massachusetts, Lucas was a selected as a drummer for the 2015 Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Jazz Orchestra, an all-star big band of undergraduate and graduate students from the northeastern United States. With that ensemble, he performed alongside trumpeter and bandleader Sean Jones at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola in New York City in January ‘15.
In 2018, Lucas recorded his first album, consisting entirely of original compositions for his quintet. It will be released later this year.
